One of the most common problems with carbon brushes in elevator applications is dusting. Our brushes are designed to reduce dusting dramatically, ensuring that your equipment runs efficiently with minimal maintenance time required. To reduce dusting, we recommend removing a row of brushes to bring up the current density or changing to a brush made of composite grade, which is a combination of strong, dense, low-friction electrographite grade and low-friction graphite material.
Another issue that can occur with elevator generators is leveling/compounding problems due to inappropriate spring pressure. To avoid this problem, we recommend maintaining spring pressure between 240 and 280 gf/cm2, and ensuring that brushes are at least 80% seated in and pre-radiused for the commutator diameter. The positioning of brushes must be accurately adjusted within the neutral zone, and it is important to always check for any high-resistance connections.
